Road Safety Examined On NPR

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

All this week NPR is examining highway safety in its’ series How Safe Are Our Roads? According to NPR more than 33 million Americans will drive at least 50 miles to visit family and friends for Thanksgiving. The great majority will return home safely. Last year, during the four-day Thanksgiving driving period, nearly 400 people were killed in traffic accidents in the U.S., according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. For all of 2008, more than 37,000 people were killed in car crashes.

NPR will do an in depth report on vehicle technology, the federal role in safety, California’s crumbling roads, road safety, driving while old, teenage boys, texting the new dui, pod cars, tailgating and dangerous rural roads.

My wife and I are proud supporters of Colorado Public Radio. After enjoying the series please consider donating to Colorado Public Radio, as well.
