- Safety first – don’t get out of the car unless it’s safe and call 911
- Do not admit fault to the other driver
- Get the other driver’s license and insurance information, and the other driver’s license plate number
- Get the names and telephone numbers of any witnesses
- Listen for statements from the other driver like “it was all my fault” or “I was on the phone…”
- Look for signs of intoxication
- Take pictures of the damage to your car and the other driver’s car
