Should I Call The Police After An Automobile Accident?

Yes!  If you are in an automobile accident you should definitely call the police.  Especially, if it is a serious accident with injuries.  Contrary to what you see on Fox News we are generally a polite society that doesn’t want to get other people in trouble.  However, in certain circumstances, like an automobile accident, you need to do the right thing and protect yourself and your rights by calling the police.

If you are in an automobile accident please consider doing the following:

  • Safety first – don’t get out of the car unless it’s safe and call 911
  • Do not admit fault to the other driver
  • Get the other driver’s license and insurance information, and the other driver’s license plate number
  • Get the names and telephone numbers of any witnesses
  • Listen for statements from the other driver like “it was all my fault” or “I was on the phone…”
  • Look for signs of intoxication
  • Take pictures of the damage to your car and the other driver’s car
