As a parent of two young boys I found a recent article about a child’s ability to judge the speed of approaching cars to be very helpful. The article entitled “Safe Roads: Testing your patients” stated that in the United States, more children die as a result of motor vehicle accidents than from any disease. Almost a quarter of those child fatalities are pedestrians. It goes on to note that children are unable to properly judge whether a car is driving fast or slow and that their peripheral vision is much more limited than an adult’s vision. Please take the time to read the article and teach your children to be safe around cars.
