Wow. I JUST wrote about this stretch of U.S. 285, and this good news now comes along:
Crews start building barrier on deadly stretch of US 285
JEFFERSON COUNTY – The Colorado Department of Transportation began construction Monday on the building of a cable rail barrier on a stretch of Highway 285 known as Shaffer’s Crossing.
CDOT Spokeswoman Emily Wilfong says the area has seen a rise in the number of crashes in recent years, most of which occur when a car veers into oncoming traffic.
“We’ve looked at a multitude of options in terms of trying to create the safest environment there,” Wilfong said. “What we landed on was about a thousand feet of cable rail barrier which will be tensioned, and allow people to, if they do happen to cross that median, they will be caught in that tension barrier and will allow them to not cut over into oncoming traffic.”
